Reviewing Our Lives

We are called to review our lives at different points.  A personal crisis, such as divorce, serious illness or the death of a loved one, may prompt us to think about the choices we have made.  Midlife is another time when people often ask whether or not their lives are an expression of their internal values.  Later in life, we may be looking back at our lives as a whole, and wish to review them in the form of memoirs for ourselves or our families.

I am experienced in guiding people through different types of life review, using tools such as therapeutic discussion, writing, guided reading and reflection.  Typically I begin by meeting with individuals to clarify what has brought them to wish to dig more deeply, and together we look at what forms of exploration and self-expression may be most helpful.

I have been influenced by Jungian psychology and transcendental thought as well as by contemporary writers and memoirists, such as Natalie Goldberg, Christina Baldwin and Mary Karr.   Spiritual thinkers, such as Thomas Merton and Frederick Buechner, have also helped to inform my practice.
